Ah, an area I’m familiar with! I’ve toured there twice, the first in 2005, the next in 2015. I was too poor/cheap to pay the “trail fee” the first time, and remember seeing one of those DNR trucks on the trail and rode real fast by it. The second time I paid, since I wasn’t such a dirtbag punk rock bike tourist at that point. As for the tunnel, the first time I walked, the second time I had good enough dynamo lighting that I could ride cautiously through it. And I also camped in Norwalk. The town wasn’t thrilling, but I did go to the bar, mostly because it was warm!
The tunnel would have creeped me out for sure. Didn’t you have a flashlight? The drawings are amazing, as always.

I was wondering if I needed to remind people that we never replaced the batteries in our bike lights and didn’t have flashlights!

In 1998, you would have needed to replace the batteries on a bike light every day!
